KWILTY SHOW

My first solo quilt show has come and gone!
I am reviewing my journal to see what
the visitors had to say about their experience.

Today I will share some photos of the 16 pieces
I had in the show at
Inniswood Metro Gardens
Westerville, OH
November, 2017

Two of my favorite quilt EVER!
COMMA.JUST.COMMA and
CHURNING BY THE SEA

MY ARTIST BIO
it's tough to write something about yourself
so I had a friend fine tune it.

Some of my older wall hangings.
I have been quilting for almost 30 years.

Red Beauty Bird is a simple 9 patch
and an appliqued red bird on a branch

Three wall hangings on the right include
two flowers that were
Paint Chip Challenges, and an
Autumn Harvest Sampler

Here is a view of the entire wall.
I sold the pink coneflower wall hanging.

This wall shows
Woodland Fairies...SOLD
A Mystery Quilts pattern called Cat's Meow,
but I named the quilt, Dreaming of Hawaii
(I call this my transitional piece between Traditional to Modern)
Modern quilting had not raised its pretty head yet.

and  a Nested Churn Dash called
"That's My Business"

And this wall featured some of my most current pieces.
Florence the Flamingo
Hattie the Hedgehog
A Charley Harper wall hanging
Charley Harper Chickadees - Swoon Block "hack"
My Ghastlies quilt that was featured
in the Alexander Henry booth at Spring, Quilt Market, 2017

The emotion I felt once all quilts were hung and I
could see them in one place, was overwhelming.

They spoke to me to say
You are a quilter, you do have talent
and you should continue this journey as long as possible.
(and your Mom would be so very proud of you)

Thanks for joining me today!
But more important than that...
Thank you for all the support and friendship
that you have given me in person,
here on my blog and on Instagram!

GOING SOLO

I never dreamt that after 30 years of sewing...
I would have my quilts hanging in
At a local metro park...
Inniswood Metro Gardens
SOLO QUILT EXHIBIT!

I found out quickly...an art exhibit is not just about
your art medium or, in my case,
how many quilts I have for display.
It requires a lot of behind the scenes work!

First thing, I had to decide what pieces I wanted to show.
When you have quilted as long as me...
that in itself is a challenge.
Because the venue is a garden...
I decided the majority of my pieces would be
Flowers, Birds, Animals
with a few surprises!

Innishouse was the home of Mary and Grace Innis.
Two sisters who loved gardening and wildlife.
They donated the park and their 37 acre estate to the
the Metro Parks in 1945.
Today the park is 121 acres of awesome!

I have been a volunteer here at Inniswood for 16 years
BUT
I had to go thru the process of presenting my art
for consideration, to be the Artist of the Month,
just like everyone else.

Loving this garden and my quilts
It is a perfect combination for my first show!

I have some Charley Harper quilts...
so of course, they are in the show

My quilting journey began with traditional quilting.
This piece shows 9 patch blocks, the birds are also pieced
branches are applique and I used some pretty batik fabrics.

I also dabbled in Art Quilts, so a couple of those
will hang in the show
A Paint Chip Challenge "art quilts"

OF COURSE, there will be some
"Ghastlies in the Garden"

I updated my business cards using washi tape
to cover up my ETSY store info..its closed
but the cards are still good!

I trip to the venue to determine how to hang the quilt.
How many walls are use?
Measure the hanging space for each wall.

I made a diagram to help me visualize
what quilts might work on each wall.
Worked well...I only had to make a couple changes
once the quilts were be hung

I used a tape measure and yard sticks to
lay out the wall spaces in my yard, then laid out quilts
to see what would fit and look good.

The possibilities were stacking up!

I needed a cool photo for social media
to announce the Exhibit and the Artist Reception.
I used this pic in Black and White
and added the info about the show.

Next up...making labels describing the quilts
including lots of fun info and appropriate credits
for patterns, quilting etc.

Then the day was here...packed up and ready to roll.

My contract with the park allowed 2 hours to set up!
Hanging 16 quilts took every minute.
My good friend, Mary Isabel helped me or I might still be there!

I was absolutely overwhelmed when I stepped back
to look at all my pieces hanging in one space.
Maybe one of the few times in my life...
I was speechless.

I hope you will come and see the show if you are in the area.
The house is open daily 9-4 except Monday
when they are closed.

A LITTLE LOCAL FUN!

If you know me at all, you know I love gardening.
Second only to my kwilting.
I have volunteered at Inniswood Metro Garden for 15 years.

The Volunteer Shirts are the only thing UGLY in the garden!

During the month of March, Inniswood volunteers are displaying their works of art in Innishouse.
I have 3 garden themed Kwilts hanging in the exhibit.

They are from my earlier kwilting years,
a bit more traditional than what I create now.
I still enjoy them...and especially hanging in an art show!

Some of my batik favorites.

"Dreamy Dragonflies"
Lovely fall batiks and some echo kwilting

This piece was a "Paint Chip Challenge"
Blind draw for a paint chip...Mine had the greens.
Could add 2 more colors...So the pink and gold batiks.
AND we had to put a hand somewhere in the design.
Look closely at the flower!
and the beads are hand sewn!

"Hand Painted Flowers"

"Red Beauty Birds'
A fun piecing and applique design
with yet more batiks

Anywhooooo...if you live nearby (Westerville, Ohio)
get out and see the show.   Cabin fever...cure!
  (House closed Mondays)

Next year I hope to have my own
Kwilt Show in the house....
