SOPHIE IS SUCH A SWEETIE

I actually forgot all about this baby quilt!
I made it for a friend who was gonna be a first time Gramma!

I knew Kim (gramma) likes Winnie the Pooh
and just sew happened, I had some in my stash.

This is the Perfect Ten pattern, by Swirly Girl Designs.

This top is my GO-TO baby quilt pattern.
It's simpler than it looks to make
and uses novelty prints sew well.

And the back was pretty simple.
I couldn't believe I had this polka dot print in my stash.
Let alone, enough for backing!
I always like to use some of the front fabrics in the backing.

Isn't it adorable!

And the baby was born in December of 2020.

Sophie Rose is a darling little girl!

2020 Mystery Quilt

Sometimes I get behind in my blog posts.
Regardless, I try to post interesting projects.
I am glad you are following me
and it is really nice when someone comments.
I don't feel so alone out here!

Sew in catching up.....
The Columbus Modern Quilters had another fun
Mystery Quilt Challenge for 2020.

I selected ALL the fabrics from my stash.
Several FQs in Orange, Mustard
with a White Grunge accent and a gray background.

I always challenge myself to use my stash
and figure out where to put the same colors
of different prints in the design.
You see, you won't know where the fabrics
will actually be in the "quilt design"
when you are making the blocks.

The first couple clues gave us fabric amounts
and cutting instructions. I label everything and
make a fabric card to help me pull the
correct fabrics for the blocks, once I began sewing.

There were lots of HTS pieces left over.
Some people would keep these or use them...not me.

The next clue made Economy Blocks aka Square in a Square.

Then we made 32 House Blocks

That looked like a village!

The next clue had us sew Flying Geese, full geese and half geese.
Somehow I have deleted that photo.

And when all pieces were assembled....
THIS is the entire block.

The last clue was the actual layout design.
Thank goodness...I would not have figured this out.
I have a good size  design board
and sticky notes helped keep my rows in order.

I sewed them all together and really love this design.
Here I was expecting some kinda design with "HOUSES'
cause all those HOUSE blocks.

Backing was next.  I searched my stash and found this fabric
that I had tried to destash several times!

It's A Stitch in Color by Malka Dubrowsky
for MODA.  A batik looking design
that lends itself to more folklore patterns.

Not quite enough to cover the entire back, but
I like to mix things up in my backings.
I made the center strip with several solid grays.

I added a small border to the top, in the gray background color,
allowing the top to float.
Stay tuned for the post about the finish1

I have to quilt this one, after my winter at the beach.

If you would like to see the other 2020 mystery quilts

JOURNALING

I encourage each of you to journal your creative journey.
It doesn't have to be anything elaborate.
Just keep a list of your projects each year.

Maybe write the who, what, when, where and why
about the project!  What you enjoyed, what wasn't so fun.
Did you learn anything while making the project.

I don't spend money of elaborate journals, stickers and such.
I make my fabric covers for Compositions books.

Here is my 2021 journal made with Allison Glass fabrics.
Front, Back and inside pocket flaps.
And I have a pen tab which sometimes I forget to use!

Front Pocket is kinda deep...and you can slide stuff behind the flap.

Back pocket has my label
and a bit shorter than the front.
Again, room to slide behind the flap.

I use heavy cardstock and glue to pages for various sections.
A large paper clip helps me find the sections easily.
And i write on that cardstock what's in that section.

Projects
I number the projects as I begin them
They might be finished months later, so I come back
to the beginning to add notes, so leave space.

Notes and Tutorials
If there is a project I use a lot, I might jot down
specs for it here.

Cards
I make a lot of cards and this section
will tell me the details about them
or perhaps a video I used to make a card.

Misc
Just that

Knitting
I need to add a section for this
but I might include this with MISC.

Here are my journals from previous years.
I usually get 2 years of information inside one journal.

A glass of wine helps my creativity flow.

If you would like to see how I make these fabric covers...
Check out my tutorial here.
Its written for (QAYG) Quilt As You Go technique
but can be adjusted for any type covering.

One day someone will find your journals
and be happy to read about your creative journey.

I'm not much for New Years resolutions but...
Here's to 2021 and lots of beautiful makes!
