SPEAKER PRESENTATION INFORMATION
WHEN TRADITIONAL COLLIDES WITH MODERN- Trunk Show
I'll share 15 > of my quilts that reflect the who, what, when and how of my 30+ year quilting journey.
A journey that began with my feet planted in traditional designs to a current Modern Traditionalist style. Lots of stories and laughs to keep you entertained and inspired. (45-60 minutes)
Let’s Get Wonky - Trunk Show
This one-hour presentation begins with breaking all the rules. I'll show you how to transform traditional blocks into modern WONKY blocks. Blocks, small projects, and quilts will be included in this part of the lecture. Second part of this lecture discusses what is, who is a Modern Traditionalist quilter and share my quilts that mix Modern and Traditional styles, to make my Kwilty Pleasures happen. (45-60 minutes)
A GHASTLIE TIME - Trunk Show
Join me as I share my personal collection of The Ghastlies quilts and projects. They are my favorite Halloween family, created by Phillip DeLeon of Alexander Henry fabrics. An obsession that began in 2009 when the first fabric collection was revealed …to an invitation to display many of my works in the Alexander Henry Quilt Market Booth in 2017. You'll see why I've been nicknamed "The Ghastlie Queen". I am honored and humbled to have a quote about my work from artist The Ghastlies fabric artist and designer, Phillip Deleon, "Kathy is the maker who can show other makers how to use the Ghastlies fabrics." (45-60 minutes)
WORKSHOP INFORMATION
Workshop fee plus all expenses to include travel, food, lodging.
Plaidish Quilt is an Erica Jackman design, and she has granted me permission to teach this workshop. Her only stipulation is that ALL participants go to her website, sign up for her email and download their copy of the pattern. It is a FREE tutorial/pattern. No copies are to be made and distributed to guild or workshop participants. There are two options for this workshop. See details below,ie.
OPTUON 1
ONE DAY PLAIDISH WORKSHOP (FEE - $500)
This is a 6-hour workshop to SEW the Plaidish blocks together. ALL 567 pieces MUST BE CUT prior to the workshop. I ask that all participants begin by sewing 9 blocks in top left quadrant. Photos will be taken of those block, on a design wall, to see the Plaidish magic begin to happen and ensure they understand how this concept works. Then they may continue to sew as they wish.
OPTION 2
TWO DAY - PLAIDISH WORKSHOP (FEE - $900)
Day 1 - (6 hr) participants will bring their personal scraps / fabrics per thr FREE pattern by Erica Jackman, Kitchen Table Quilting.
I will provide a short discussion on color values to the entire group, then talk with individuals, to review their fabrics, color values and contrasts. Participants will then CUT the ALL 567 pieces needed.
Day 2 - (6 hr) participants will return to sew the Plaidish quilt blocks together. I will provide block examples and tips (i.e. pressing, chain piecing). Participant goal for this day is to sew 9 blocks in top left quadrant. Photos will be taken of those blocks, on a design wall, to see the Plaidish magic begin to happen and ensure they understand how this concept works. Then they may continue to sew as they wish.
Scrappy Plaidish
3-Color Christmas Plaidish
If you think Christmas quilt, this is a fabulous and quick make. However these trees can be made for any season or theme. A one day workshop will provide an understanding of why wonky works by using an old stack and whack technique brought into this century with a modern twist.

REVIEWS:
I talked to you briefly at the Miami Valley Quilt Guild meeting and wanted to follow you on Instagram. Very much enjoyed your 'Let's Get Wonky" presentation. Learned some history and it was nice to get validation for my natural preferences…

I really enjoyed your presentation and your 'slant' on quilting. I had an ah-ha moment. I felt so connected. I've never felt like I quite fit into a style and now I know a name for it! (Modern Traditionalist). So I just wanted to thank you for your presentation and for promoting the 'where modern collides with traditional.' It was a great affirmation for me…
