CHARLEY HARPER REMAKE

Several years ago I received this bag in a swap.
I loved it, but it was kinda floppy.
It needed stabilizer to make it sturdy.

Today I decided I would remake it into a bag
that I would use.  It was to to sit in a shelf.
it’s a Charley Harper bag...after all!

Sew I assessed the original design
And though about what I would remake with the pieces!
I had to make sure the appliqué Chickadee remained where it is.

I decided I could rework into a One Hour Basket.
Sew I cut the handles off,
Cut the bag apart, both the main and lining pieces
Trimmed to the layout for a basket,
Added extra batting and stitched it down.

The Chickadee fabric for the lining
And inside pocket stayed the same.

The cute appliquéd chickadee still on the front

   Happy with the remake!
And now it will be used time and again.

  It took me four years
to get the courage to remake it...cause maybe
the original maker might not understand?
But once you receive a gift...it’s yours to use, give away or remake it!
I am glad I did.

A GHASTLIE BLACK FRIDAY

Isn't "Black Friday" a perfect day to talk Ghastlies?
Cyber Monday is coming and lots of online
stores have the new panels in Potion Blue...
Of course, I couln't wait and have ordered
a couple panels!

A Ghastlies Patoral

 A Ghastlies Moment

I joined the #falloweenminiswap2017 over on Instagram.
Some of my much loved and hoarded
Ghastlies...got away!

Made some Economy Blocks...you may call this design
a Square in a Square.
Both are correct.

Here is Sebastian.
Did you know the cat was once a little boy?
Yes!  Two Grislie Sisters got made at Mathilda Ghastlie
and put a spell on her son!  True story!

These Ghastlie witches stirring up more spells?

This moth is about to become a victim of Ghastliness

More Ghastlie women..pondering their next move.

I like the setting of black and gray with a pop of orange!

A bit of orange for a flange in the border...
you know to make it fun!

Sew it all together...

Added some backing and corner tabs for hanging the piece.
Just cut a yard stick the width...place ends in the tab
add command strips
Ta-Da...no holes in the wall or the fabric!

I quilted it with simple straight lines.

add my label...Kwilty Pleasures

And as I quote
@theghastlies (Phllip Deleon, designer)
"A perfectly Ghastly composition"

Coming soon...Ghastlies Christmas Quilt!
You're gonna love it!

SUMMER SUN SWAP

Summer is almost over butt it was such fun
participating in the Summer Sun Swap on Instagram.
My secret partner was @sboots812 Suse Boots

I searched my stash to find her favorites colors
Chose this paper pieced pattern
"Emerald Seahorse"
If you like it you can buy it here on Craftsy

Found a cute Chevron Print in my stash for the backing.

Enough for Binding and Corner Tabs

It was a challenge to paper piece as some of the pieces
were sew TINY!  The block was small as well
so I added the border to meet the swap size requirements.

The "one" extra needed to be something
that represented me or where I live
and non-sewing related.
I added some note papers from Lotta Jansdotter,
cause I love her fabric
AND a bookmark...come on...
I could never do just one extra!
Of course, I made the card too!

And my maker was Susie Boots~and this is what I received.
An adorable turtle(s) mini with a small zipper pouch
and some Maple Syrup from New Hampshire!

Thanks to @sparklestash who was the swap mama
and kept this swap organized and moving well!

I hope you have had a great summer...
if you took a vacation
...tell me where you went!

Charley Harper Mini Swap

THIS...
is what a Charley Harper Mini Quilt looks like.
and it was made for ME by @librcat
in a swap on Instagram

The backing is just as cute as the front and look at the corners.
I have to look up the tutorial on how this is done!

My "extra" fun gift was this tiny pincushion.
There is a slip opening for scissors just above the
piecing area!  LOVE IT!
and the back is just as cute...again!
And now heres my mini that went to @tami3020

I kept the quilting simple with some stitch in the ditch and
echo quilting over the piecing.
After all CH birds are the stars of this mini!

It finished at 14" square

A peek at the back...

A project sleeve to hold tools
for paper piecing

And what's a tool kit without the tools?
A small cutting mat, rotary cutter and add 1/4" ruler.

What is your favorite Charley Harper print?

BASKETCASE

If you know me...I can be a basket case...
I can get behind in my posts but my intentions are good.
Maybe if I stayed home a while...nah I like my adventures!

One of my favorite swaps in 2016 was
The Basket Case Swap sponsored on Instagram.
My partner, Janet Smith (@bayleebarkley)
loves Tula Pink...found this in my stash.

I decided to make a one hour basket...

added some simple quilting...

The finished basket turned out great!

She also mentioned Cotton and Steel was a favorite fabric...
I did a little research and found she enjoys paper piecing.
So I made a paper piecing tool pouch.

Here is the entire package I sent.
With paper piecing tools in the case.
( small cutting board/rotary cutter)
and a fun flying geese pincushion.

and of course my partner Jaia @handmadebyjaia
 NAILED.IT
Sending me all this Ghastliness!

I should have made a resolution for 2017 to keep on top of my posts...
but I am not a resolution kinda gal...
better late than NEVER
and hopefully you enjoy them regardless of the timing!

FABRIC SHACK MINI QUILT SWAP

I had to join the Fabric Shack mini quilt swap!
My partner was @njcrabtree (Natalie Crabtree)
I selected this Layer Cake "Jingle" by Kate Spain
I also luv the book "Modern Holiday" by Amanda Murphy

It didn't take long to find the perfect pattern...
"Holiday Forest"

Of course I like to change the pattern up a little bit.
so instead of solid trees
I made scrappy trees!

The white background is looking great...kind of a swirly look
I also decided not to put trunks on the trees.

Just a small border and the top is done!

I had some left over charm squares for the backing.

Here's the back...

And the front with a few little extras...
cause you know folks like extras!

I really wanted to keep this one...
but Santa said....NO....so off it went!

And what did I receive?

Amanda Everest @itsthethereelmandy lives in Las Vegas
was my partner and she made me this cute mini using
Tasha Noel's
"Pixie Noel" Fabrics.

Merry Christmas my friends and thanks
for hanging around and reading my blog this year!
It's sew appreciated.

I will see you on the other side of the New Year!
