WHAT I DID LAST SUMMER

Where did the summer go?
It's November and the holidays are 
coming at us...full speed!

This past summer I took a bunch of photos of my 
antique kwilt collection, in various locations.
(using a Cannon point and shoot camera)


Many of these kwilts are family heirlooms
Some I found in antique store for a steal!

All are beautiful...All have a story
I wish I knew all the words; all the history.
Ready? Lots of photos coming your way.

I went to a garden party...
actually I hosted this one for some gardening friends.    
 Here is my deck and back yard.

at a shelter house at Blacklick Woods Metro Park

in Reynoldsburg, OH

I was so excited to find the swinging window shutters
for this photo opportunity.  It was quite a job
to get these hanging by myself.

 I have a lot to learn about photography
but I'm having a really fun time in this journey!!  

I'm hoping Santa hit the lottery and will
bring me a new camera with lots of bells and whistles!

"Grandma's Stitches" Comes Home...

Last Sunday, angels reached down from heaven and delivered 

a Lonestar (family heirloom) kwilt to me.

Take a deep breath!!!!

Grandma's Stitches

Just look at the piecing, the perfect points

and the hand kwilting!  

Solid colors....what goes around does come around!  

Modern..nope this is an antique!!!

The backing is all white cotton

I never knew these "grandmas" but 

have heard many stories about them.  

I now have pieces of them in my hands. 

The label will read...

"Grandma's Stitches"

was hand pieced and hand quilted

in the late 20s to early 30s 

by my husband's (Phil Gordon)

Great-Grandma Lottie Gregg 

and Grandma Cora Stuckey who lived in Ohio.

Grandma Stuckey passed it down to 

Phil's mother, Geraldine Gordon.

Gary Gordon, Geraldines oldest son

inherited it and had it for 40 years  

Because of Kathy Gordon's love for quilts....

Gary gave it to Phil and Kathy.

"Grandma's Stitches" came home June, 2013.

I like to yard sale and usually I never find much.  

I'm always hoping to find old sewing items.  

At a yard sale a couple years ago
I found a box of old fabrics and 

began to dig around in it.  

Could it be...no wait...

OMG..it is....

I almost Peed my Pants!

So although I didn't make these 12 Dresdens,
I am guessing were made in the 40s...
from feed sacks and clothing.

I wanted to share them with you!

LOOK at these TEENY, TINY, hand stitches

Isn't it great that both young and old,

both Traditional and Modern quilters

can ALL enjoy such a block with roots that are so deep!
"What goes around comes around" was never more
true than with this quilt block design.  

Keep you eyes wide open and dare to dig around
for Dresdens and other antique Kwilty Pleasures!

Sunday Snippet - thru a Cathedral Window

My fabulous find...a Cathedral Window Bed Runner!

Hand pieced and hand quilted - only $40.00

Check out this hand piecing!!!

And the back shows the hand quilting so nicely!

Not sure why the piece was only made to a bed runner size...              but I'm sure happy I found it.  

Beautiful work and my mind will wonder about the Kwilty Pleasures the quilter must have enjoyed.
