One of my favorite quilts shows happens every year at a beach
in Venice FL.
Its the Sarasota Modern Quilt Guilds
"Airing of the Quilts"
I don't always get to be there that first Saturday of February
but my friend Kathy Guenther does.
Here are some pics she sent from this years show that
Kathy took and sent me!
One of the guild challenges was Mid-Century Modern.
Jetsons Meet The Jestsons!
(Anyone remember those cartoons?)
Kathy knows how much I love Dragonflies!
We both like this style of Modern Quilts
and the colors are wonderful
and check out that modern quilting
And THEN she sent me all these photos...of...
my favorite quilt block
THE CHURN DASH
Look how amazing these modern Churn Dash quilts
have come together
OK I'm not big on solids (which is a principle of modern quilting)
and I would loose that border....BUT he wonky blocks havee my attention!
I just can't get over these CHALLENGE
Churn Dash Quilts!
Look closely at the Gray quilt on the right!
The churn dash blocks are made...one piece at a time.
Each block get the nest piece and sew on!
Genusis!
And then the BIG Churn on the right
and littles below!
I love the white background quilt with what I would call
positive and negative Churn Dash blocks.
and the blue one on the left is spinning apart!
Then I just had to visit the Sarasota MQG website and look!
ALL these churn dash quilts...ALL part of a guild challenge!
Anyway, I hope maybe next year I can visit in person.
There's nothing as beautiful as quilts by the beach!
Also known as "Quilts in the Wild"
