JUST RIGHT!

I know its March and this post is about Christmas.

RIGHT?

Really though, its a  post about something important. 

 Friendship, UFOs and QUILTS!

This Modern Tree Block quilt has given me grief for a couple years.

NOT because it was hard to make blocks, but because

I couldn't decide the RIGHT way for me, to set the blocks.

For two years these blocks went up and came down

from my design wall several times.

Last November, I decided on this layout.

You ask me, why then? RIGHT?

Because, Shirley, my BFF of 60+ years had been battling breast cancer

and was going to have a Mastectomy on Dec 7th.

She loves Christmas, Christmas Trees and had mentioned

how much she loved seeing these Tree Blocks on my FB page.

Sew I got busy and quilted this one. An easy wavy line was quick.

I had purchased the C & S plus print for the backing

so there was no more stalling. RIGHT?

Added the binding and look at the mitre on this corner!  They all looked like this!

You see Shirley, is a quilter, and a perfectionist.

I knew she would be checking out my handiwork to see if it looked RIGHT!

I added my custom label...

And I was so pleased with how this all turned out. RIGHT?

Before Thanksgiving...I mailed this beauty off to Shirley.

I really loved it, wanted it, but the RIGHT thing to do was send it to her!

And don't ya know....she took the quilt to her Chemo treatment, just 

after that surgery.  And on this day she told me...I am cancer free!

RIGHT!!!!!

Now I know we all get ourselves into a tizzy sometimes

when we have a pile of UFOs staring at us.

IT'S TOTALLY ALL RIGHT!

Time and the man upstairs, will tell you when

 it is the RIGHT time to finish the RIGHT project.

2019 MYSTERIOUS SEWING

Leigh Morgan was the coordinator for the Columbus Modern Quilters

2019 Mystery Quilt Challenge

Every other month we received a CLUE or directions

 to make a part of the Mystery Quilt.

Clue 1 was to pick fabrics

I decided to pull from my stash and used 4 tones in each color way!

Clue 2 was to cut the fabrics

I made an index card that showed the colors and their labels.

This makes it easy to figure out what goes where

when sewing pieces together.

Clue 3 

Sew this block, using specific fabrics

and a specific layout

Clue 4

make more blocks with specific colors and instructions

(these will eventually go into other blocks

but we didn't know that yet)

Here you see clues 

5, 6, 7 and 

Clue 1 is the bottom Right block

Clue 8

These geese and economy blocks will become

parts of other blocks (we don't know that yet)

Clue 9 (yep here are those blocks from clue 8)

I love these blocks!

(these are put together from Clue 3)

And THEN we had to figure out how to lay the blocks out

WITHOUT any instruction.

I was in a dizzy tizzy until I started to think...

LOGICALLY

Yes sometimes I can do that!

Lay out all the block in order, the way the block finishes 

(use the pictures / diagrams from the clues)

THEN begin in the center with Block 1...there was only 1 block

The next round only needed 4 blocks

The next round needed X number of blocks

The next round needed X number of blocks

and sew on until the final 4 corner blocks

are set and the 60" square quilt top is finished!

I love it!

I love that it is scrappy!

I love that I pulled from my stash to make this one!

I loved the great mystery most of all!

The reveal was Tuesday Dec 10th

And here they are...at least the ones who showed up for the reveal!

As the new year begins, I hope you have plenty of time for sewing.

2019 FINISHES

2019 was a good year for my creativity.

I made a lot of fun things.

This post is about my sewing projects.

The year began with a trip to the beach with 

3 Kathys.  I made the other 2 Kathys

sun glass cases and card/key fobs

I finished a couple drawstring bags

that were started at GlampStitchalot in 2018

This camel was supposed to be an oval wall hanging or hoop.

I thought it would be cute as a knitting bag.

The ugly sweater block...also became a drawstring bag.

I gifted this one.

I finished a Poolside Tote and gifted to a friend

for her 70th Birthday.  She used to have a nail salon

called Arizona's Retreat.

My biggest accomplishment was FINALLY FINISHING

my Ghastlie version of Moda Make Modern Quilt.

Cassandra Beaver quilted it for me. 

The backing was the very first line of Ghastlies from 2009

2019 was a year for new babies.

My step-daughter had lots of friends having babies

sew I made 3 for her to gift them.

Take a blue fish panel and make it girlie!

Backing using up scraps.

This baby girl needed piggies.

And plenty left for the backing.

Next baby needed pink and gray elephants...trunks UP!

And some marching across the quilt back.

A garden friend commissioned this 

Foxy outdoor themed quilt for her niece.

The orange and white strip was the back and binding.

Another friend needed a Winnie the Pooh quilt

for her niece's baby.

I loved this backing almost as much

as the front.

A great-grandson, Elijah Carter Chatman, made his way into the world. Sew he received this fun quilt I made using cute

  Australian animal prints.

Finished the top for my Modern Flags quilt.

Backing is also complete...just need to quilt.

I made a Buckeye fabric, one-hour basket and filled it

with Ohio State Buckeye cards.

The next 3 quilts had been finished before 2019 

but I  donated them as Christmas gifts to an adopted family 

thru an efforts of a good fiends and her local real estate company!\

I love paying it forward

I finished two vintage red truck quilts.

This is a table runner/wall hanging

This is my hubby's Christmas gift!

Vintage Trucks, Barns and Wagons

set in economy blocks.

 I was gonna keep this quilt.  I actually made it into

a bed runner and table topper...then changed my mind.

I made the quilt for a sweet friend.

She has had a very rough year and now she has

a hug from me anytime she needs it.

I forgot to get a pic before I gifted it!

The backing was just as sweet with the medallion holiday prints!

The last finish for 2019 is my top for the

Columbus Modern Quilters Mystery Quilt Challenge.

I absolutely loved this journey.

It was indeed a challenge, but sew fun!
