SANTA'S ALL WONKED OUT!

I certainly wanted to work on a Santa Wonky Log Cabin quilt
for Christmas 2025…didn’t happen!
I want to include it in my
‘Let's Get Wonky’ Lecture - trunk show.

It begins with a pile of fun Christmas fabric strips.
And a Santa fabric I fussy cut for the centers of these
WONKY Log Cabin Blocks.

It’s the same technique of making a traditional Log Cabin
but wonky means uneven sides, uneven strips.
The center block - at least 5 sides.
Building around it, clockwise, with strips.

Santa was the center of the log cabin block,
the black fabric was second piece, just keep adding strips.
I sewed the same fabric strip for each
of the 12 blocks before moving to the next one.
You can stay structured or use random fabric selection.

Keep building around and around,
Trimming each piece to even out that
side of the block after the strip is sewn and pressed.

I wanted big blocks sew I kept adding until I got to
a size I could trim up using my 14” square ruler.
Make sure to keep the block itself WONKY when trimming
I built my block to larger than 19” and squares them up.
When making winky..you will use more fabric than
Actually needed and constantly trim down.
Sew there’s a bit of waste.

Placing blocks on the design wall is sew FUN.
Twist and turn til you eyes like the layout.
You can see here all the blocks are squared up,
But the block LOOKS wonky inside that square.
That’s what you want to achieve.

I only added a side and bottom border for a bit more size
and wonky surprise.

The top was finished and I made a huge wonky log cabin for the back.

I had some light color GRUNGE in my stash
To finish the backing.

I have the batting and binding made.
Sew quilting happens when I feel like quilting.

HALLOWEEN TWIST!

Who remembers the TWISTER RULERS?
I came across mine and thought…
This was wonky before wonky was cool!
Lemme make another to add to my
‘Let’s  Get Wonky’ trunk show!

The 10” TWISTER was perfect for using a Layer Cake.
Halloween Holiday Essentials
By Stacy Lest Hsu!

Notice the ruler lines.

36, 10” squares on the design wall.

Sew em up!

Then a 6” border was needed to frame the squares

Lay the ruler on the intersections lining up tbe ruler lines.

Cut around the ruler, as directed, to get the twister squares.

Cut the leftover pieces into usable scraps for a future project!
Toss the birds nest trimmings.

Put all the blocks back on design wall.
Numbered pins help keep them in order.
Sew everything back together again!

Sew the design goes from boring…

To TWISTED or wonky!

Kinda fun!

I pieced together a backing using
GRUNGE and some OOP Ghastlies chevron.

Ready to be quilted!

2026 QUILT IDEAS!

I’m always figuring out 2026 Project
Here are some I may or may not get too.
We will see,😝

HodgePodge has been on my mind for a very long time.
Indecidive about the fabrics.
I am lovin this Navy, Green and Rust!

I’ve been dilly dallying with this one for way to long.
It’s got some wonderful OOP fabrics in the mix on the ROUNDABOUT!
I suppose I could JUST take this to retreat and see what happens.

Guess what, I did cut this one out and it’s sew vibrant
I might need to sew it just to brighten up the dreary winter days.

I want to make this for a March Irish Quilt.
Maybe I’ll get it cut before March.

And one that I’ve thought about for a very long time…
Finally is cut. Another Ghastlies Quilt.
You’ll have to wait and see it to believe it!

This list could go on and on……..
I’ve already finished 3 quilts NOT on the LIST!

Summer Picnic is a winner!

Starstruck Ghastlies used up a lot of my OOP stash!
I'm talking early lines from 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2012

Twisted Geese, by Zen Chic was a fun one
and now I'm not afraid of a gaggle of geese!

This was a pattern test called Sweet Mae.
And the FQs were by Zen Chic as well.

A wonky churn dash used up a layer cake I had in my stash.
I love this design...tutorial by Missouri Star, Freestyle Churn Dash.

I finally finished some Ghastlie wonky star blocks into a top.
This was all part of a IG swap many years ago.

Oh now we are talking about some more wonky flying geese,
Monkey Wrench pattern and more Zen Chic fabrics.
