FLIPPIN A WONKY LOG

It always begins with a thought, an idea.
How can I make a traditional block, feel modern
Or a bit wonky?

I pulled some scraps and decided yellow would be
The centered focus piece for the block.
I had lots of blues and low volumes to use as the logs.
I like to use letters to organize the sewing.
Then stack the pieces one atop the others.

Move to the sewing machine
making one block at a time.
I wasn’t comfortable chain piecing.

I sewed a stack of
12 Traditional Log Cabin blocks.

Onto the design wall, ready for the next move.

I had lots of solid yellow that became
 the wonky frames on the
traditionally sewn blocks.
Yep this is gonna work!

I quilted this one on my domestic machine.
I began by stitching in the ditch if all the log seams.
Then did a back and forth straight organic line
In the yellow triangle sections.

9 blocks became wonky side of my quilt.

Three traditional blocks were set in a vertical line with a
small dot  print set on white background
You can really see the fun wonky quilting on this side.

So here’s my Let’s Get Wonky bound with a
print that’s already in the quikt blocks.
It’s a two-sided project I’ll use
in my upcoming trunk shows that captures
My Modern-Traditionalist style !

And my sweet hubby in his obligatory pose
with my finished quilt.
