Day 4

"Decking My Halls"

Nothing smells like Christmas like the aroma of baking cookies...especially Gingerbread cookies.  

For many years I decorated with a Gingerbread theme. 

There were plenty of gingerbread items to fills some space!

Most of these are making someone else happy now.

and of course, some fun gingerbread dolls

I  had some Dept 56 houses and cookie trees 

that I placed along the top of the kitchen cupboards.

Space was tight, so I tilted the trees over to make them fit.  FUN!

In this corner I tucked a "half" a tree, 
the back side was flat...for a small area.  
I crammed it with ornaments and gingerbread houses.
 One night I heard a huge CRASH.
Guess it was "top heavy" for "front heavy" in this case.  
It fell over and broke a few things, so this  tree is GONE!
If you are unsure that your trees will be stable,
use wire or string or something to keep it upright!

Here I used 3 trees in varying heights. 

I painted pot lids with gingerbread faces and added
bows and greenery for their hair.
Fun tree toppers! 

Once again, Inniswood Gardens in Westerville Ohio 
borrowed my Gingerbread collection to decorate 
Innis House.   SWEET!

I was just starting to get my quilting feet wet with this
Gingerbread panel quilt!
As a matter of fact I liked this panel so much
I bought it twice!  And that was when
my fabric stash was SMALL!

Decking my Halls with Flakey Folks

Day 3

"Decking My Halls"  

Lovin' those flakey folks!  SNOWMEN!

Over the years some snowmen have melted away or found 
another holiday home but I do keep a few flakey friends around.

A wooden tree stand of snowmen was perfect for this "Frosty"
tree that greeted my holiday visitors in the foyer.
Peek around the corner...
the dining room was full of snowmen too!





And of course, where this is "snow"  there are "quilts"
A cozy sideboard displays snowmen dishes
with a few snowfolks climbing a ladder for a closer look.

In this foyer vignette I replaced the wall candle holders 
on each side of the mirror, with snowmen pictures.
A tiny snowman themed tree lights up the area!

A simple greenery swag on the window bring the eyes up.

I added fabric scraps from an old ripped up quilt top and 

wired buttons on the swag to represent snow.  

More antique quilts draped across the china hutch
helps warm the snowy mood!

Snowmen landed in the hallway one year.

The painted snowman face is on an old pizza pan. 

I made a pillow this year for the guest room.
I'm sure some snowmen will show up at first snow
to find his place on this Holiday Lane!

Inniswood Metro Gardens in Westerville, Ohio borrowed my
snowman collection one year to display at Innis House.  
What an honor!

Day 2

"Decking My Halls"

When Phil and I first built our home in 1999 
we really enjoyed the Southwest design style.

So, a few holiday ideas brought to you from the desert!

A different year...a different southwest mantel.
The tile picture is from Mexico.

Then the southwest moved to top of my china cabinet 
in the dining room and I added adobe houses.
Move decorations around, switch out a few things
and get a new look and feel. 

Here a beautiful Southwest picture hangs
over the dining room sideboard.
It's fun to replace a wall picture with something
that goes with your decorating theme!

A prize possession is my porcelain, suntan Santa
BFF, Shirley, made for me (from kiln to clothes) 
Santa always has a special place at Christmas.
Santa sits in front of my quilt...

Decking my Halls with POLAR BEARS!

Day 1

"Decking My Halls"

Who really decorates a master bath?    ME!
Why not, it has a jacuzi tub for escaping
from all the holiday hustle and bustle.  

I have been hanging the upside down tree here for years...
before upside down trees were cool.    
No lights required on this tree! Just pretty in white.
White towels with a berry spring fit right under a $2.00
thrift store photo of a winter scene.  

Light the candles, add some bubbles and
a glass of wine...ahhhhh!

The other end of the tub area, I've added another flocked tree 

with cute polar bears snooping about. 
The sleigh picture was a wedding gift
and adds a perfect touch for this vignette.

Last year I moved the polar bears to the Great Room

after I took down the Christmas tree.  

They perk up any room and winter is their time to play!

I don't have a polar bear quilt for this post but you can see the makings of one on this post.  It was a gift for a friend's baby.
